Paying For College

Financial Aid and Other Goodies

Funding Above and Beyond Estimated Cost of Attendance

Evaluate your financial aid package. If you need more funds beyond what the school offers, talk to you financial aid counselor! They might be able to help by providing you with a budget appeal form. Use it!!!

FACT: Most lenders will not provide money beyond the annual "estimated cost of attendance" calculated by your COLLEGE.

If, for example, you attend the University of Kentucky and the school estimates the cost of attendance will be $15,000 for the school year ... and UK provides $15,000 to you via loans, grants and scholarships,

MOST LENDERS WILL refuse to LOAN FUNDS above and beyond $15,000.

Access www.finaid.org to verify the aforementioned information.

Good luck!!!

Access www.finaid.org to RESEARCH OTHER loan outlets if you do not need funding above and beyond the ECOA.

Sources of information were pulled from the University of Kentucky Young Library, various financial aid web-sites linked from this site, and the U.S. Department of Education. This web-site is a very condensed cluster of information, designed to diminish the intimidation of the financial aid process. More information is available at your college of choice. Call them. They will help. Good luck, and remember all loans must be re-paid back. And if you are thinking of squishing them together to form one big loan, consolidate via the federal government at www.dlservicer.ed.gov This will help you avoid predatory lenders.
